Whalehead highlights Schramsberg tour in SF Chronicle column
10 Aug. 2008
HEALDSBURG, Calif. - There is sparkling wine, and then there is Schramsberg -- a distinction Matt Villano investigates in his most recent Wine Country Destinations travel column for the San Francisco Chronicle.
The story, which appeared in today's "Datebook" section and was titled "Bubbly with history," chronicles the public tour-and-tasting extravaganza offered at Schramsberg, Napa Valley's only sparkling wine produced in the methode champenoise.
Over the course of the story, Villano takes readers with him on this special event. The experience begins with a tour of the winery's wine caves, and ends with an exclusive, one-of-a-kind tasting in a private room.
Villano also provides readers with a general overview of the methode champenoise, which is French for the "champagne method" and describes the way in which wineries in the Champagne region of France produce their namesake bubbly drink.
The author took the Schramsberg tour recently with his wife and parents.
